The Rachel Rose Studio is a place I hope you will find beautiful clothing and objects that bring color, joy, and inspiration into your wardrobe and home.
It all begins as a hand painted or dyed piece of material. Most of my work is on silk, but I am always experimenting with new fibers. The silk paint I use most is Sennelier Tinfix. This is an acid based dye, which requires steam setting at above 250 degrees F to become permanently bonded to the fabric. We love using this brand because unique techniques can be achieved with the dye, it results in vibrant colors, little water is needed, and it has excellent wash and color-fastness. Most of the time, items like the silk tees or dresses are constructed first and painted or dyed second. Other times, the fabric will be painted or dyed before we cut and sew the item. For orders where many yards of fabric are needed, an original hand painted design will be scanned onto the computer and created into a repeat. I’ll then work closely with a printing mill to get the design screen or digitally printed into fabric yardage.
Keeping waste to a minimum is another important part of my process, and I'll reuse materials until exhausted and repurpose scraps where I can.
This site is a place where I will showcase work, past and present, much of which is available for purchase. When I began working as an independent designer, the focus was on fashion, but slowly things have evolved. Print and color has become the core of my work. Designing for clothing will continue to be my first love, but I’m so excited to create print for new products as well. I also love working directly with clients on custom orders as well as collaborating with other designers, so please contact me if you’d like to work together!
2011 was the beginning of this journey, and one thing is certain; As I evolve, the business will evolve. Thank you so much for taking this journey with me. And if you’re new to my work, thanks so much for taking the time to check it out!
